How to Remove a Fresh Dog Urine Stain from a Nylon Carpet
A fresh dog urine accident on a nylon carpet doesn't have to leave a lasting stain or smell. With quick action and the right steps, you can lift the urine and neutralize the odor.
- Blot the area with paper towels or a clean cloth to absorb as much urine as possible. Change towels frequently and keep blotting until the area feels damp, not wet.
- Apply an enzymatic cleaner designed for pet stains. These cleaners break down the uric acid and eliminate the odor at the source. Follow the label instructions for the correct amount and application method.
- Let the cleaner sit for the recommended time, usually 10 to 15 minutes. This allows the enzymes to work on the urine.
- Blot the area again to remove the cleaner and dissolved urine. Use a clean cloth or paper towels.
- Rinse with cool water by lightly dampening the area with a cloth or spray bottle. Blot to remove excess moisture.
- Sprinkle baking soda over the damp area to absorb any remaining moisture and neutralize odors. Let it sit for a few hours or until dry.
- Vacuum the baking soda once the carpet is completely dry.
Fresh vs. Dried Urine
Fresh urine is much easier to remove than dried urine. If the urine has already dried, you will need to rehydrate it with water or an enzymatic cleaner before treating. Dried urine may require multiple applications of the enzymatic cleaner and longer soaking time to break down the uric acid crystals.
What Not to Do

- Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the stain, which can damage carpet fibers and spread the urine.
